1. The Life line is straight rather than going around the mount of Venus in a graceful big arc. It is full of defects like islands or dots.

2. The Head line is (a) originating from lower mount of Mars, (b) Head line is separate from Life line by more than 8 mm or so, (c) Head line is wavy or made up of islands, (d) it is connected with the Life line for a long distance, say 18-20 mm, (e) the Head line is either too drooping or too straight curving upwards to upper Mars.

3. The line of marriage is absent or defective or they are too many in numbers.

4. The Heart line originating from mount of Saturn or is too short. A branch from Heart line going downwards and meeting the Head line, or going to the lower mount of Mars. The Heart line is too close to the Head line thus giving rise to a narrow quadrangle. This shows narrow-mindedness and an unemotional nature.

5. There are islands on the Fate line, specially in the beginning. Fate line is stopping at Headline or Heart line. Fate line is too thick and shallow.

6. Mount of Venus is over-developed, hard and red in colour OR the mount is under developed and has a look of a deflated balloon with visible blue veins. The mount has irregular and too fine a grill on it.

7. Mount of Moon is too large, flabby and much rayed.

8. A weak, short and supple thumb that does not open more than about 50-60 degrees as measured from the finger of Jupiter. The top phalanx is too thick and long where as the second phalanx is weak and short.

9. The fingers of Jupiter and Sun are short and low set. The finger of Mercury is low set and twisted or crooked.

10. There is no yava mark on the first or the second joints of the thumb.

Timing from phalanges on the fingers

Another method for seeing good or bad years is from the phalanges on the fingers. Start counting on the right hand from the 3rd phalange (S.K. Das counts from the 1st (nail) phalange as shown in fig. 8) of the mercury finger and end on the thumb, as shown in fig. 9. This would cover from 1 to 15 years. From 15-30 years can be counted by going over the left hand likewise. The years from 30 to 60 can be checked by repeating the above process again from the right hand and going over to the left hand. Some authors have advised that the counting for women should be started from the left hand, rest of the process remaining the same.

Any horizontal lines, cross, dot, grill or unfavourable mark on the phalange would indicate a bad year. Any good signs, such as vertical lines on the phalange will indicate a lucky year.

However the following years are considered to be unfortunate for every one: 29, 30, 34, 35, 37, 39, 40, 44, 45, 49 and 50. If the horizontal bars are found on these years, they are particularly bad.

Since, timing the event from the palm is not a very accurate method, this author advises the student to ask the age from the client himself at which ascertain important event in the past may have taken place in his/her life. Then this point can be taken as a reference, for this person, to extrapolate the future events.
